US Wind selects two Maryland firms for offshore wind development

The 250-MW offshore wind project near Maryland took another step forward, as US Wind has selected two Baltimore firms for development and construction work.

Strum Contracting Company will provide welding services for the installation of the meteorological tower, which will collect wind speed, wind direction, air temperature and other environmental data. The tower will be composed of an intricate steel lattice construction with sensors located at the top.

Additionally, Strum will provide quality assurance and quality control of the steel foundation fabrication activity.

Maritime Applied Physics Corporation will handle procurement and installation of instrumentation and power equipment for the meteorological tower.

The Maryland development will include 32 wind turbines 17 miles off the coast of Ocean City.
