On June 20, a Russian-British consultancy Vostock Capital Ltd. hosted a free webinar on TheInvestment Potential of Balkan Hydropower, which turned out a confident success. The webinar featuring nearly 200 participants, was held in the run-up to the upcoming International Summit and Exhibition “Hydropower Balkans 2017” and focused on the latest developments in the Balkan expanding hydropowerindustry.
The Balkan region has an enormous hydropower potential, meanwhile the share of hydropower in energy generation of some countries reaches 90%.In the recent years, the region has been experiencing hydropower development boom – the Balkan countries comprise about 2000 projects for the construction and renovation of small, medium and large-scale HPPs.
At the webinar, theaudiencegot valuable insights from the speakers -the remarkable Balkan hydropower market experts – represented by Nicolas Sofianos, Research Projects Coordinator at the Institute of Energy of South East Europe, and LorencGordani, Energy Market Advisor and Professor of the European Union Law and Policy of the Albania Centre for Energy Regulation and Conservation. Theexpert speakers sharedtheirintelligenceonthe investment potential of hydropower in the Balkans, described the most promising investment areas and spotlighted the investment opportunities within the existing legislative framework in the region.

Lorencproceededwiththe legal aspects of investing in the Balkan hydropower.He highlighted the features of concessional framework and public-private partnership. Further on, he deepdived into overcoming the administrative barriers of investment attraction through PPP.
The audience asked questions live throughout the webinar and received expert response during the Q&A session, as well as had a chance to be directly involved in the discussion through the interactive voting on hot issue.
