London, UK: There are certainly differences in the way that Department of Energy sites and nuclear plants are decommissioned, decontaminated and demolished, however there are numerous important similarities such as managing large budgets, complex project management, workforce transitions and working with local stakeholders. Therefore, for the first time, environmental management supervisors at the DOE and nuclear utility executives will be sharing a stage at the “Nuclear Decommissioning and Used Fuel Strategy Summit” to exchange experiences on nuclear site clean ups.

Combined, the DOE-EM and nuclear plant decommissioning markets will be worth over $80 billion in the next 10 years and that means there is a great deal of risks and opportunities for both industries. It is extremely timely for these two enterprises to share a platform and exchange lessons learned to safeguard that costs don’t escalate and safety isn’t compromised. On the upcoming ground-breaking conference, Head of Nuclear Energy Insider, Siobhan O’Meara expressed, “Never has it been more critical for the nuclear power industry to seek expertise from other major clean-up projects. The Nuclear Decommissioning & Used Fuel Summit is the only platform for these two industries to come together and share critical insights”.

Some of the Key DOE-EM and utility speakers at the conference are: 

  • Thomas Palmisano, Vice President Decommissioning and Chief Nuclear Officer, SCE 
  • Paul Paradis, Decommissioning Director, Entergy 
  • Jonathan ‘JD’ Dowell, Deputy Manager – Office of River Protection, U.S. DOE – Hanford Site 
  • Sue Cange, Manager – Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management, U.S DOE

The third annual Nuclear Decommissioning & Used Fuel Summit will be taking place on 3-4 October 2016, in North Carolina. This is the world’s largest meeting point for industry professionals, bringing together over 300 attendees from across the globe. Nowhere else can you learn directly from subject matter experts, hands-on project managers, strategy-driven executives and industry commentators on these critical topics.
