OKG Aktiebolag said that after an operating season characterized by monthly as well as annual production records, it is now time for the annual outage at unit Oskarshamn 3 (O3).
This involves 25 days crammed with activities with focus on safety and quality in order to ensure stable electricity deliveries in 2016-2017.
On Saturday 28 May, unit O3 was disconnected from the offsite grid prior to the annual outage and is scheduled to be in operation again on 22 June. With many activities planned to take place in a short period of time and many contractors present at the site, it is important that safety is prioritized. Additional resources will be present in the facilities with one task only: detect and prevent occupational health and safety risks and reinforce professional behaviour.
OKG Aktiebolag have dedicated safety coaches who support the activities that require special focus in relation to the work environment, says Per Magnusson, deputy production manager at unit O3.
The time critical activities during this outage are the various activities to be performed in the reactor hall, for instance refuelling and rearrangement and replacement of equipment that measure the neutron flux in the reactor vessel. Other major activities concern for instance service work on three out of eight main recirculation pumps, valve work in different vital safety systems, and inspections of for instance the turbine bearings and the low pressure turbine exhaust blades in the conventional turbine equipment.
OKG Aktiebolag have been planning this outage during the entire year, and now eager to get started, Per Magnusson concludes.
Unit Oskarshamn 1 (O1) delivers electricity at maximum power again after this year’s successful outage.
